The seller is often not the balloon company
Many of the people who sell hot air balloon rides in Marrakech are not balloon companies at all. They are resellers: they take a booking, add a margin and pass your name on to whichever operator is available that morning. Many of them have never been in a balloon, never stood on a launch field at dawn, and do not know how the wind and the weather decide whether a flight is safe.
For them, a balloon ride is one more product on a list. They do not choose your pilot, they do not see the weather in the morning, and they are not there when something needs to change. If the flight is cancelled, your pickup is late or the breakfast is not what you were promised, the person who sold it to you is not the one who can fix it.
Why it matters for your safety
Ballooning depends on decisions: whether the wind is right, where to take off, how high to fly, where to land. These decisions are made by the pilot and the operator every morning, not by the person who sold you the ticket. When you book directly with the operator:
- You know who flies you. Your pilot is part of the team you booked with.
- The weather decision is made by people who know. If the morning is not right, the pilot decides on the field, and you choose a new date or a full refund.
- Your details reach the pilot. Children's ages, health questions, a proposal or a fear of heights go straight to the people who fly you.
- Someone is responsible. The company that flies you answers for every part of your morning, from pickup to breakfast.
What a real balloon company looks like
- Its own balloons, its own pilots and its own ground crew
- A licence to operate and insurance for every flight
- Pilots who give the briefing in person and say "not today" when the wind is wrong
- Everything included and written down: transfers, flight time, breakfast, certificate
- Reviews that name the pilots and the crew, not only the view
