The 10 things the best balloon companies have
| What to check | Good sign | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| 1. A real operator | They name the pilots and own the balloons | Nobody can tell you who will fly you |
| 2. Licensed balloons | Registration starting with CN- on the balloon; licence details on request | Vague answers about licences |
| 3. A pilot who says no | Flights cancelled on windy mornings | "We always fly" |
| 4. Weather policy in writing | New date or full refund if cancelled | Credit only, or no answer |
| 5. Full briefing in person | The pilot explains the flight and landing position before take-off | No briefing, or a quick word in one language |
| 6. Real time in the air | 45 to 60 minutes | "Up to 1 hour" with no minimum |
| 7. Insurance | Every flight insured | Not mentioned |
| 8. Everything included, in writing | Transfers, breakfast, certificate | Extra fees on the morning |
| 9. Reachable people | You can message the team before and after booking | Only a booking button |
| 10. Detailed, recent reviews | Guests name the pilot and describe the organisation | Few reviews, only about the view, or all from one week |
Red flags: when to keep looking
- A price far below the others. Pilots, crew, gas, vehicles, insurance and maintenance cost the same for everyone. Very cheap offers usually cut transfers, breakfast, briefing or time in the air. Why prices differ.
- A seller who cannot answer simple questions about the pilot, the basket size or the weather policy. They may be reselling another company's seats.
- Pressure to fly in any weather, or a promise that the flight "never" gets cancelled. In ballooning, a cancelled morning is a sign of a careful pilot.
- No written list of what is included, or extras announced on the morning.
Many sellers are not real balloon companies
In Marrakech, balloon rides are sold everywhere: in hotels, in the souks, on the street and online. Many of the people selling them are not balloon companies. They have never flown a balloon, they don't know how the weather affects a flight, and they don't decide anything about your morning. They pass your booking to whoever is available.
A real operator has its own balloons, registered in Morocco with a registration starting with CN- painted on the envelope (civil aviation is supervised by the Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile, DGAC), its own pilots and crew, a licence and insurance. Ballooning Experience is that kind of company: book with the right and safe hands, directly with the people who fly you, and avoid surprises. Why the seller matters.

What the best rides have in common
- A real operator you can talk to. Ask who will fly you. A good company tells you.
- A pilot who says no. On windy mornings the best operators stay on the ground.
- A full briefing in person, before take-off and during the flight.
- 45 to 60 minutes in the air, not a short hop.
- Everything written down: transfers, breakfast, certificate, no surprises on the morning.
- A clear weather policy: a new date or a refund if the flight is cancelled.
- Insurance for every flight.
- Detailed recent reviews that mention the pilot and the organisation, not only the view.
How we try to be one of them
Our own pilots fly every flight; your pilot briefs you in person and stays with you until breakfast. We only fly when it is safe, every flight is insured, and if the weather stops us you choose a new date or a full refund. You can read what guests say on Google, in their own words, and meet our pilots.
Questions
What is the best hot air balloon company in Marrakech?
There is no official ranking. The best companies are real operators with their own pilots and crew, a pilot who cancels when the wind is wrong, a full in-person briefing, 45 to 60 minutes in the air, insured flights, everything included in writing, and many detailed recent reviews on Google. Ballooning Experience is a licensed, locally owned company flying in Marrakech for more than 10 years, with more than 2,000 hours in the air, our own expert pilots, insured flights and a new date or full refund if the weather stops us. How to judge a balloon company.
What is the best hot air balloon ride in Marrakech?
The best ride for you is the one with a safe, licensed operator, 45 to 60 minutes in the air, hotel transfers and breakfast included, and a fair weather policy. Choose the classic shared flight (€165) for value, a private balloon (€330) or the VIP flight with breakfast on board (€620) for a special occasion. How to choose.
How can I check that a balloon company in Marrakech is a real, licensed operator?
A real operator has its own balloons, pilots and crew, a licence and insurance. Moroccan balloons carry a registration starting with CN- on the envelope, and real operators are named in their guests' reviews. Many sellers in Marrakech are resellers who have never flown. Ballooning Experience is a licensed, locally owned operator: you book directly with the people who fly you. Read more.
Why are some hot air balloon rides in Marrakech cheaper?
A balloon flight has real costs: pilots, ground crew, gas, vehicles, insurance and maintenance. Much cheaper offers usually leave something out, such as hotel transfers, breakfast, a full briefing, the sunrise flight itself or time in the air. Compare balloon rides around the world: in most balloon destinations, such as Europe, North America or Cappadocia in Turkey, a sunrise flight with a recognised operator usually costs more than €150 per person, depending on the cost of living, the season and what is included. So a balloon ride for a few dozen euros should make you ask what has been left out. Why our price is different.
Should I book my Marrakech balloon flight directly with the operator or through a booking platform?
We advise booking directly with a local operator. You talk to the pilots and crew who will fly you, get real answers about pickup, children and special requests, change your date easily if the weather moves the flight, and no commission goes to an international platform: your whole payment stays with the local team and the local economy. Why book with a local company.
